The awakening of patriotic citizens across the nation is transforming our nation’s political landscape. We know from polling data that citizens in the Tea Party/ grassroots awakening are much more engaged, more patriotic, more informed and more religious than the general public. These are qualities that lead to superior citizenship and are the very characteristics our Founders said would be necessary for our nation to succeed. But to the President and his inner circle, we are nothing more than “tea-baggers” – a highly derogatory term that originated in the homosexual community and has been much used by Leftists to demean and diminish the grassroots awakening that is challenging the Obama Administration’s forced march to statism. Just days ago, the Scolder-in-Chief called for more civility in political dialogue. But in Jonathan Alter’s new book, “The Promise: President Obama, Year One,” the President is quoted as regularly calling “Tea Party” activists “tea-baggers.” Obama is quoted as saying last year’s votes on the stimulus bill… “…helped to create the tea-baggers and empowered that whole wing of the Republican Party to where it now controls the agenda for the Republicans.” ++It is indefensible to use the term “tea-baggers.”

If a Republican politician had used such a derogatory term in reference to any other group of American citizens, the liberal media and the Democratic Party would have demanded an apology… and then fiercely called for his or her resignation! But when the president does it? Total silence! The Media Research Center reports, “In the more than 24 hours since news broke that President Barack Obama uttered the disgusting sexual slur ‘tea-baggers’ in reference to the Tea Party movement, MRC confirmed that ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN have all refused to report the offense on their national television broadcasts.” ++We must stand against this kind of personal attack! Conservative leader Grover Norquist says the President’s use of “tea-bagger” is the equivalent of using powerful racial epithets. I believe this outrageous disrespect reveals Obama’s deep-seated disdain for citizens who dare to rise up in peaceful opposition to his statist agenda or to assert their constitutional rights.

I assure you that the President’s disrespect has only increased Liberty Counsel’s resolve to further confront his statist policies! It’s happened before… ** In 2002, at a private 100th birthday party for Senator Strom Thurmond, Republican Senator Trent Lott said that the U.S. “wouldn’t have had all these problems” if Thurmond’s segregationist presidential campaign had been successful. Under blistering pressure from liberals, Senator Lott was forced to resign his leadership post. ** In 1998, there were outraged calls for Representative Dan Burton’s resignation and massive press coverage after the Republican called President Clinton a pejorative term during the sordid Monica Lewinsky affair.

In contrast, President Obama demeans tens of millions of patriotic Americans and all we get is SILENCE… from the White house staff… from congressional leaders Pelosi and Reid… and from the liberal media! And President Obama is not alone in slinging character assassinations at conservatives. Just days ago, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg was quick to point the finger of blame at “somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill” for the failed Times Square bombing. ++Rampant disrespect aimed at conservative Americans.
